2017 Chairs and Honorees
Honorary Chair for the 31st Annual Night of a Thousand Gowns, Sir Ian McKellen, CBE, is one of the leading lights of stage and screen both here in the U.S. and all over the world. Sir Ian will honor us with his presence and will accept the prestigious Fredd E. Tree Spirit of Stonewall award!
Sir Ian has appeared in innumerable movies and plays, both classical and contemporary, and has long been active in the LGBT rights arena. He is best known to contemporary audiences for his role as Gandalf in the Hobbit movies and will star this year in the live action Beauty and the Beast. McKellen

2017 Diamond Award to Dustin Lance Black
ustin Lance Black will receive the 2017 Diamond Award at this year’s celebration. Black is the Oscar Award winner for best original screenplay of Milk, the acclaimed biopic starring Sean Penn as gay activist Harvey Milk. His career has spanned writing, direction, producing and editing for the movies and television. His credits include movies Pedro, Virginia, J. Edgar and When We Rise. He wrote and co-produced three seasons of Big Love. Throughout his career he has been an active and visible advocate for LGBT rights. Black
